In order to ensure that everyone gets a fair shot at a super-fast PR, we are having chip timing for the race! So that no one gets bogged down in the first few meters, we will have pace signs that will correspond with your predicted finish time. PLEASE start in the correct spot. Your chip will not be activated until YOU cross the start line so there is no need to push your way to the front unless you plan on winning!
The Macklind Avenue Mile is excited to announce its brand new friends and family wave in 2011! If you want to run with your children or your significant other this wave is for you! This wave will kick off the festivities at 9:00am. There will be no awards for the friends and family wave so if you want to win one of our Macklind Mile awards please run in the men's or women's waves. You do not have to specify which wave you are going to run in. The chips will take care of everything!
To be considered for the elite wave please email Ben at ben@bigriverrunning.com. Men who have run under 4:20 for a mile in the last year and women who have run under 5:20 in the last year will be eligible. We will take the top ten male and female entrants. Elite awards will be separate and there will be a $250 bonus for a course record (men or women – winner only). Men's Course Record- 4:00.9, Jeremy Doherty, 2008 Women's Course Record- 4:45.4, Steph Hood, 2008
The Kids quarter mile dash was a huge hit last year and it's back for 2011! The race will begin at 10:10 near the intersection of Winona and Macklind. All finishers will receive a ribbon. We do have youth shirt sizes to accommodate all of our younger participants.
The Carrollton Bank Pre-Race Party will take place on Sunday evening July 3. The event will be held at Carrollton Bank located at 5807 Murdoch just a few blocks west of Big River Running Company in Saint Louis Hills. The party is open to all Macklind Mile participants and will include free sample plates of lasagna from Stellina Pasta Cafe, drinks and appetizers. At 7pm there will be a showing of the ESPN 30 fo 30 documentary, Into the Wind, the story of Terry Fox and his inspirational run across Canada to fight bone cancer. The entire event runs from 5:30-8pm and packets can also be picked up at the party.
In order to ensure a safe race for everyone we rely on the help of volunteers to serve as course monitors on race morning. If you are interested in helping out PLEASE email Ben Rosario at ben@bigriverrunning.com. As an added bonus all volunteers are invited to a special volunteer reception at Carrolton Bank located at 5807 Murdoch just a few blocks west of Big River Running Company in Saint Louis Hills the night before the race. The reception precedes the Pre Race Party.
The Macklind Avenue Mile begins at Macklind and Sublette, just southwest of the YMCA parking lot. Runners and walkers will head straight DOWN Macklind Avenue before finishing in front of Big River Running Company on Devonshire and Macklind. The course drops 180 feet in elevation from start to finish with the third quarter of the race seeing the biggest drop. The race finishes with a roughly 300 meter straightaway so you will have to earn that fast finish! Click on the video below to see the course.
"Totally Rad" Macklind Avenue Mile Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female finishers as well as the top three in each of the following age divisions (male and female): 10 and under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+
The Post-Race party has always been one of the highlights of the Macklind Mile and this year we're taking things to a whole new level with a post-race concert from former Urge frontman Steve Ewing. The local star and his band will play from 10:30 to noon on Macklind Avenue. You won't want to miss it! In addition to the concert we will have food and beer at the finish and our sponsors – The Mack Bar and Grill and The Murdoch Perk – will be OPEN for a great 4th of July lunch.
